    Job Announcement

    The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Library Specialist (part-time, temporary, non-benefited). This position serves at the discretion of the department director. The work schedule is 19 hours a week, with occasional weekend and evening hours.

    Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

    Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and lifelong learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of knowledge and new ideas. As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community and a collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our libraries continuously reflect on patrons' current and emerging needs and choose to advance literacy and champion inclusive learning experiences for all people by fostering accessibility and embracing new technology.

    Who we are looking for

    We’re excited to welcome a new team member who is passionate about customer service, teamwork, and community engagement. This role involves specialized public library functions and a variety of responsibilities, including supporting the planning and organization of library programs, and assisting with the evaluation and selection of materials and services in accordance with established library practices and standards. We're looking for someone who enjoys delivering early literacy programming out in the community and is eager to support outreach efforts aboard our brand-new mobile library. As part of the outreach team, this individual will receive training to drive and operate the mobile library.

    Minimum qualifications

    • A High School Diploma or GED; and

    • 2 years of general library experience; and

    • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; or

    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Desired qualifications

    • Fluent in Spanish and English

    • Experience providing early literacy programming or instruction

    • Experience with library outreach

    The City of Chandler will conduct a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
