    Job Description

    Distinguishing Features of the Class

    The Fleet Services Service Person performs various maintenance and custodial duties at the Fleet Services Facility. This position completes a variety of physical laboring tasks and semi-skilled work in connection with the Fleet Services operation, and performs related work as required.

    The initial assigned work hours for this position are 1:00pm to 9:30pm, Monday through Friday.

    Acceptable Experience and Training

      ◦ Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
      ◦ Some experience in lubrication of light and heavy equipment; or
      ◦ Some experience in an automotive shop; or
      ◦ Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.


    Required Special Qualifications

      ◦ Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen;
      ◦ Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) allowing the operation of vehicles with Airbrakes upon appointment or the ability to obtain within 6 months.


    Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

      ◦ Cleans automotive parts and steam cleans motors;
      ◦ Lubricates, changes oil and other fluids and filters on a variety of City-owned equipment.
      ◦ Changes and repairs tires on vehicles and equipment;
      ◦ Washes and cleans vehicles;
      ◦ Picks up and delivers vehicles;
      ◦ Performs custodial duties in shop and office areas;
      ◦ Assists mechanics, welders, and other skilled trades in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment;
      ◦ Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
      ◦ Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
      ◦ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
      ◦ Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
      ◦ Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
