    Job Description

    The City of Oakdale is situated in the heart of California's Central Valley in Stanislaus County, 15 miles northeast of Modesto at the base of the foothills.  Primarily an agricultural community, Oakdale is home to several large manufacturing firms including Sconza Candy Company, A.L. Gilbert Company, and ConAgra Foods. The City is known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, offering a taste of the Old West with its historic town, boutique shopping, and unique events.  With a population of just under 24,000, Oakdale enjoys a small-town charm. The City has affordable land prices with many attractive residential neighborhoods and an abundance of residential building sites. In-city recreation includes an 18-hole country club golf course, community recreation swimming pool, and numerous city and recreational parks. Oakdale is a great city whose citizens, many of which are long term residents, embrace a strong sense of community and an outstanding quality of life.

    The City of Oakdale is seeking a thoughtful, measured, and diplomatic candidate to serve as the next City Manager. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator who demonstrates transparency and integrity along with the ability to develop and administer sound citywide goals, objectives, policies, and methods for evaluating achievement and performance levels. The successful candidate is open-minded, confident, and highly professional with the ability to provide effective leadership to a full-service municipal organization. Candidates should possess increasing responsible experience in an administrative and managerial capacity in a municipal organization. Qualified candidates typically possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in public or business administration or political science along with five (5) years of increasingly responsible related experience in municipal administration, including three (3) years of high-level responsibility, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s Degree is preferred. 

    The annual salary range for the City Manager is $213,607.20 - $259,640.76; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
