JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY Plans, coordinates, and supervises the daily operations of the City's Rio Vista Pool, Splash Pad and the Activity Center Natatorium, Fitness Studios, Cardio Hallway, Fitness Equipment and Weight Room; facilitates the delivery of aquatic and fitness services, programs, and events; monitors and maintains facilities and equipment for area of responsibility; prepares and maintains facility/program records and documentation; responds to public inquiries and complaints; and supervises assigned personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Oversees and supervises the day-to-day operations of the Aquatic Facilities (Natatorium/Rio Vista Pool and Splash Pad).
- Monitors and ensures aquatic are properly maintained for safe use and enjoyment by the public.
- Facilitates the delivery of high quality aquatic and fitness programs and activities including swimming lessons, lap swim sessions, water aerobics, swim teams, adaptive aquatics, pool parties, group aerobic and other aquatic and special events.
- Develops, communicates, and implements strategies pertaining to daily operations and program delivery.
- Researches and modifies aquatic programs, policies, and procedures to further enhance operational efficiency and/or improve patron safety.
- Prepares and maintains various types of facility/program records and documentation.
- Monitors aquatic pool pumps, chemical feeds and equipment; reviews chemical logs; backwashes pool system.
- Oversees cleaning of aquatic and related facilities.
- Oversees and supervises the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Facilities (2 Studios, Weight Room and the Cardio Hallway):
- Monitors and ensures fitness facilities are properly maintained for safe use and enjoyment by the public.
- Facilitates the delivery of high quality fitness programs and activities including group aerobic, personal training, cycling classes, fitness childcare and other fitness special events.
- Develops, communicates, and implements strategies pertaining to daily operations and program delivery.
- Researches and modifies fitness programs, policies, and procedures to further enhance operational efficiency and/or improve patron safety.
- Prepares and maintains various types of facility/program records and documentation.
- Oversees cleaning of fitness and related facilities including locker rooms, lobby, storage room, fitness studios, cardio hallway and weight room.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; prepares and maintains employee schedules; prepares employee payroll; provides guidance and assistance to staff; monitors and ensures staff maintains necessary certifications.
- Orders supplies and equipment for the Natatorium, Rio Vista Pool, Fitness Studios, Cardio Hallway and Weight Room; monitors and maintains supply inventories; coordinates preventative maintenance for equipment.
- Interacts and communicates with patrons; responds to patron inquiries and/or suggestions for improvement; facilitates the timely and effective resolution of complaints.
- Miscellaneous:
- Provides 24/7 on-call assistance; responds to emergency issues as required.
- Assists in other areas of the Department as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING - Trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
- Manages facility operations and program/service delivery.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required.
- Three (3) years experience supervising aquatics programming and facility operations is required.
- Certified Pool-Spa Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
CORE COMPETENCIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS CORE COMPETENCIES - Must be able to read and comprehend regulations, municipal codes, handbooks, and manuals; must be able to review/prepare departmental policies, payroll/purchasing documents, and program records.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with City departments and personnel, outside agencies, vendors, patrons, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision constantly; standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, balancing, talking and foot controls occasionally; kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting and climbing rarely.
Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, wet surfaces, water, pool maintenance equipment, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and blood borne pathogens.
