    Job Description

    The Printing Services Assistant, under supervision, handles the preparation, packaging and delivery of finished materials to designated locations within the agency. Assists in support activities to include shipping, finishing, and binding of materials.

    This position reports to the Printing Services Technician III.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Some professional experience.
    • Some higher education experience at an accredited college or university.
    • Six months experience working with inventory, shipment preparation, delivery, bindery/finishing, pre-press, and/or press functions.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Significant lifting (up to 50lbs with assistance), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
    • Significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
    • Significant fine finger dexterity.
    • The job is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
    • Ability to use a computer/keyboard.
    • Ability to operate machinery, equipment, and delivery vehicle.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Must be attention-to-detail oriented.
    • Ability to plan and prioritize projects to meet tight delivery deadlines.
    • Must be a good driver with the ability to operate company vehicle in a safe manner.


    Equipment:
    • Bindery equipment: Hand Coiler, Machine Coiler, Hand Punch, Machine Punch, Shrink Wrapper, Coil Maker, Drill Press, Round Corner, Stitcher, Collator, Paper Cutter.
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Hand/power tools.
    • Delivery Vehicle.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal.
    • This position may require up to 10% travel.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Performs Bindery and Finishing Work - 70%
    • Operates bindery equipment to cut, punch, drill, coil and/or bind finished materials.
    • Folds, finishes, inserts, staples, trims, and wraps finished materials.
    • Prepares finished materials for delivery according to job specifications.
    • Makes booklets according to job specifications.
    • Makes coil.
    • Inspects all work of finished work to ensure adherence to quality standards.


    Packages and Delivers Materials - 20%
    • Assembles cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
    • Inserts items into containers, using shrink wrap, spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
    • Binds containers with plastic tape, using strapping machine.
    • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons identifying shipping information on cartons.
    • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
    • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
    • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
    • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
    • Delivers boxes of finished materials from clients and vendors.
    • Transport finished materials to designated sites.
    • Meets deadlines as required.


    Performs Basic equipment maintenance - 10%
    • Cleans, adjusts, and makes minor repairs to finishing/bindery equipment.


    Other Duties:
    • Positively interacts with customers and staff.
    • Actively participates in team meetings and events.
    • Reports to work at designated time and place.
