    POSITION SUMMARY

    The City of Weatherford is seeking a qualified Municipal Court Judge to preside over the Municipal Court. The successful candidate will perform all functions and duties required under the City Charter, City ordinances, state law and other legally permissible and proper duties as the position requires. This position involves serving as a Magistrate with responsibilities for initial detention hearings, setting bail, and issuing warrants as appropriate.

    *** Basic schedule of 6 hours per day, 3 days per week (up to 18 hours weekly) ***

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Preside over court proceedings in Municipal Court
    • Exercise independent judgment within specific legal guidelines
    • Ensure Municipal Court activities comply with federal and state laws and City policies
    • Serve as a Magistrate for both City and County, including:
      • Conducting initial detention hearings
      • Admonishing rights and setting appropriate bail
      • Determining probable cause
      • Issuing applicable conditions of bond
    • Review probable cause affidavits and complaints before issuing warrants
    • Adjudicate municipal ordinance violations (criminal, traffic, alcohol, code enforcement, animal offenses)
    • Manage court dockets and schedules to ensure efficient case handling and timely resolutions
    • Monitor changes in state and federal regulations, standards, and legislation
    • Uphold ethical standards and integrity in all judicial activities
    • Supervise Associate Judge, including scheduling and assignment of duties
    • Recommend appointment for Associate Judge when vacancy exists
    • Coordinate with Municipal Court Administrator for direction of court employees


    Qualifications

    • 4 years experience working as a Municipal Court Judge or Licensed practicing Attorney • Valid license to practice law in the State of Texas • Active membership in the Texas State Bar Association • Compliance with annual Texas Bar requirements and Judicial Education requirements • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred
