Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are responsible for providing children with diagnostic and therapeutic services in the area of Occupational Therapy. Services are provided in the client’s natural environment, which are settings that children typically spend time; for example, home or child childcare. Occupational Therapist IV is the leadership level where incumbents are assigned responsibility for developing and implementing an occupational therapy program at an assigned location to insure that required treatments and activities are provided to individuals and groups. The Occupational Therapist IV duties include direct supervision, responsibilities and the ability to evaluate the work of other Occupational Therapist.
Typical Functions - Plans, conducts and evaluates occupational therapy treatment/intervention activities in the child’s natural environment.
- Makes recommendations concerning standardized treatments/intervention based on developmental indications.
- Completes child assessments concerning developmental, educational, and social skills/abilities. Participates in family interview.
- Develops a treatment plan to address areas of need including routine based activities, neuro-motor and sensory-motor function/activities and child/family coaching and education sessions.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Service Plan according to state and federal guidelines.
- Participates in the assessment, design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices.
- Evaluates the child’s response to treatment/intervention and makes recommendations on changes in treatment as required.
- Maintains records concerning treatment/intervention provided, including both subjective and objective data.
- Participates in a multidisciplinary team to assist in the development of the IFSP.
- Participates as a direct supervisor to other Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Interns during their fieldwork experience, with the ability to evaluate, direct and supervise the work of others.
- Being present at the office is an essential function of the office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Level Descriptor This is the leadership level where incumbents are assigned responsibility for developing and implementing an occupational therapy program at an assigned location to insure that required treatments and activities are provided to individuals and groups. This includes direct supervision responsibilities and the coordination of program requirements between units and with other divisions.
Other Duties- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

Education and ExperienceRequirement at this level consists of a minimum master’s degree in occupational therapy and a current Oklahoma license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Plus, four years of professional experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist; or an advanced level master’s degree or doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may be substituted for only 2 years of the required experience.
Valued Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesRequired at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional occupational therapy; of therapeutic techniques and their application; and of the materials used in occupational therapy programs. Ability is required to use therapeutic equipment and materials; to evaluate various skills and abilities; to administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; to interpret medical plans; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. To provide in-service training at the local, regional and state levels in identified areas of expertise. To exercise initiative and independent judgment; and to supervise other Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Student Interns during field work experience.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentWork is typically performed in a client’s natural environment (home or childcare setting) or in an office environment with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise level. Telework and provision of services remotely may also be required. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and may lift up to 35 pounds. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Being present in the office is an essential function of this position.
