    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years experience in a field related to repair and maintenance of power plant mechanical equipment and machinery

    Sand Hill Energy Center requires a Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor to have complete oversight over the outage and maintenance planning for Sand Hill Energy Center and will also supervise the warehouse staff. This person will manage the critical parts tracking program for all 7 LM6000 gas turbine engines and the 7FA gas turbine. The critical parts tracking is paramount to a successful power plant with a focus on grid stability. This position will manage the gas turbine parts and keep up to date on repairs and GE recommendations of replacement parts. This position will supervise three employees.

    Other Duties:
    • Assist in incidents and investigations regarding power plant issues, failures, and spot checks.
    • Develop processes to track critical parts for gas turbines.
    • Develop and coordinate outage planning with Maximo.

    WORK SCHEDULE :
    This position has been designated as a Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a city-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

    TRAVEL :
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Detailed hands on understanding of Maximo.
    • Detailed understanding and technical knowledge of gas turbines.
    • Mechanical Maintenance experience in Natural Gas Fired Power Plants.
    • Understanding of warehouse duties and functions.
    • Power Plant supervision experience.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Writes daily, weekly, &/or monthly activity reports. Interprets, explains, and enforces city policies & procedures, building codes, specifications, ordinances, etc. Discusses and coordinates division/section operations with others. Attends meetings as section representative. Discusses bids with vendors &/or others for services/equipment. Assists in developing operating procedures. Monitors operation &/or maintenance of plant systems, i.e. electrical, protection, mechanical, etc. Checks equipment for proper operation, safety, and/or needed maintenance. Orders and issues supplies, parts, etc. Investigates work-related accidents. Provides technical advice & assistance to field personnel, contractors, etc. Troubleshoots to determine cause of power plant equipment failures.

    • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.


    • Knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in repairing and maintaining power plant equipment and facilities.
    • Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures and regulations applicable to work being performed in or near energized electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of boiler, turbine and generator controls in a power plant environment.
    • Knowledge of electric and electronic schematics/systems.
    • Skill in effective planning and prioritizing of complex construction, maintenance and repair operations.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
    • Skill in operating precision measurement and calibration equipment.
    • Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
    • Skill in working from drawings, blueprints, plans and specifications.
    • Skill in the methods of troubleshooting complete control systems down to malfunctioning components.
    • Skill in directing the work of technicians in maintenance and repair of power plant equipment/systems.
    • Ability to exercise balanced’ judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions.
