    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years of experience in repair and maintenance of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and systems, including one (1) year of experience which was in the Aviation industry.
    • Completion of accredited training in air conditioning and refrigeration systems may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License.
    • EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
    • Valid State of Texas Certified Air Conditioning Technician License.
    • Must be a registered HVAC Tech with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and ventilation systems.

    System Monitoring: Monitor building management systems ( BMS ) to ensure proper temperature control and air circulation in critical areas such as security checkpoints, control towers, and IT server rooms.

    Compliance & Safety: Ensure all systems comply with safety codes, environmental regulations, and energy efficiency standards.

    Emergency Response: Respond quickly to HVAC failures or malfunctions to prevent service disruptions, especially in high-traffic or sensitive areas.

    Record Keeping: Maintain logs of maintenance, repairs, and equipment performance for audit and planning purposes.

    Collaboration: Work closely with facilities, engineering, and operations teams to support airport functionality and passenger comfort.

    ASSESSMENT

    A skills assessment will be required for this position.

    DRIVER’S REQUIREMENT

    This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA .

    This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL


    This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Performs service and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment and components including pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, fans, motors, wiring, condensers, evaporators, compressors, thermostats, and other mechanical systems in 24/7 commercial and remote AUS facilities. Assists in installation, maintenance, calibration, and diagnosis of HVAC systems, building automation system ( BAS ) network devices and components, and other equipment and infrastructure at and between the BAS center and remote sites. Completes assigned work orders including making materials ready and performing calibrations, maintenance, repairs, and testing of HVAC equipment and systems. Performs and assists with the repair of rooftop package DX systems using bucket truck and aerial man lifts. Maintains and enters records of repairs, calibrations, and tests in the asset management system ( AMS ). Services Aircraft Support Equipment PC air units, chilled and heating hot water units, ice machines, thermal storage tanks, chillers, and boilers. Assists with installing and maintaining digital and analogue automation control system components. Assists with overseeing maintenance and repair activities performed by third-party contractors. Coordinates maintenance, repairs, and system outages with AUS facility users during outages. Ensures all systems comply with all Federal, State, City, and Local regulations, policies, procedures, and ordinances.

    • Ability to test and calibrate instruments and make precise and close tolerance repairs and adjustments.
    • Ability to wear anti-fall ( SRL ) body harness for confined space entry or working from aerial man lifts or bucket truck.
    • Ability to acquire, through training and on-the-job experience, specialized knowledge in rapidly changing technology and applications.
