  • Job Description

    The Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB) of Pinellas County, Florida, is a countywide independent special district organization governed by an 11-member board that works collaboratively with public agencies, nonprofit providers, and community partners to invest in the health and well-being of children and families.  The JWB provides a full range of services including Child and family services, Community outreach and partnerships, and Fiscal oversight and strategic investment.

    The JWB is located in a thriving region on the Gulf Coast known for its award-winning beaches, vibrant arts scene, and robust public services. Home to a high-performing school district and diverse housing options, the area offers the charm of small towns with easy access to the cultural and professional hubs of Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa Bay.

    The Communications Department is comprised of eight employees, and coordinates JWB’s public relations, internal/external communications, media outreach, event planning, and policy advocacy. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, JWB’s next Chief Communications Officer should be a strategic and collaborative communications leader who can drive impactful storytelling, strengthen media relationships, and lead a high-performing  communications team. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading communications strategies for public or nonprofit organizations;  possess emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership management style; demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills; technical expertise in media relations and digital campaigns; knowledge of policy advocacy; and have the ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.

    A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field is required, coupled with a minimum of eight (8) years of senior-level experience in communications or public affairs, media strategy, and crisis communications. Preferred candidates will have a Master’s degree in Communications or Public Administration, experience with Florida government or nonprofit agencies, and familiarity with Florida Sunshine Laws and public records compliance. The salary range for the position is $124,477 - 164,932, DOQ, along with an array of traditional benefits, Florida Retirement System, and optional 457 deferred compensation retirement programs.
