  • Job Description

    The City of Rockport is looking for a dependable and hardworking Street Maintenance Technician to join our Public Works team. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and making a direct impact on your community, this is the role for you! You'll help maintain and improve the streets and infrastructure that keep Rockport moving forward.

    What You’ll Do:

    Help keep our community running smoothly and safely by maintaining and repairing city streets. As a Street Maintenance Technician, you'll be part of a hardworking team dedicated to making everyday travel better for everyone.
    • Patch potholes, seal cracks, and repair road surfaces.
    • Paint curbs, crosswalks, and other pavement markings.
    • Clean and maintain storm drains and assist with streetlight repairs.
    • Trim trees, install traffic control signs, and help with holiday decorations.
    • Haul materials and debris and operate light- to medium-duty vehicles and equipment.
    • Use a variety of hand and power tools to get the job done safely and effectively.
    • Set up barricades and ensure work zones are clearly marked.
    • Perform daily maintenance checks on tools and equipment.

    What You’ll Bring to the Team:
    • A strong work ethic and a passion for hands-on, outdoor work.
    • Solid knowledge of construction safety and maintenance practices.
    • Ability to operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and effectively.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • A willingness to adapt, learn, and support team goals.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • 1–2 years of experience in street maintenance or a similar role.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain one).
    • Ability to perform basic math, follow directions, and work in all weather conditions.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:
    • Work is outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Requires walking, bending, lifting heavy objects, and operating machinery.
    • Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, and traffic is common.
    • Safety gear like gloves, goggles, and masks must be worn.
