    DEFINITION :
    Directs programs of physiological fitness for County employees through the County's Occupational Health Services.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :
    Positions allocable to this class work under the administrative and technical direction of a physician and plan, organize, and direct the activities of a physical fitness program such as the cardiopulmonary program within the County's Occupational Health Services.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Develops and maintains the Fire Department's Peer Fitness training program.
    • Develops and maintains the recruit fitness program.
    • Coordinates and oversees training and continuing education for Peer Fitness Trainers and Fitness Ambassadors.
    • Provides individualized consultation to Fire Department personnel.
    • Analyzes injury and illness trends among Fire Department personnel.
    • Evaluates fitness equipment.
    • Serves on the Fire Department's Fitness for Life technical committee.
    • Assists in the development of fitness, health, and wellness-related articles.


    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY :
    Three years' experience in either teaching exercise physiology at the accredited college or university level, or planning and conducting programs of physiological fitness evaluation in a medical setting. A Master's degree* in Physiology or Physical Education with specialization in exercise physiology may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in Part I to be invited to Part II.

    Applicants must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be added onto the list of eligible candidates.
    TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS :
    If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

    TEST PREPARATION :

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :

    The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
    VETERAN'S CREDIT :
    If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email to the exam analyst at Fire-Examination@fire.lacounty.gov as soon as possible. If you are eligible for veteran's credit, we can include it before promulgating the list of eligible candidates.
