    The Position

    Budget Analysts prepare and implement budgets including the development of expenditure projections, narrative justification of programs, and detailed biennial spending plans; review and analyze budget requests and adjustments; and ensure compliance with budgetary directives, policies, regulations and limitations.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    The Department of Taxation is seeking to fill a Budget Analyst 2 located in Carson City. Under general supervision, the Budget Analyst 2 reviews and analyzes local government budgets and audits, prepares documentation finalizing tax rates for certification by the Nevada Tax Commission, analyzes and reviews debt reports, compiles debt limitation and debt margins, assists in publication of annual local government indebtedness report and Department Annual Report; acts as staff to the Committee on Local Government Finance; reviews and approves medium term obligations; and ensures compliance with all aspects of the Local Government Budget and Finance Act. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or closely related field and three years of professional budgeting, accounting, economic or management analysis and projection, staff analyst or auditing experience, one year of which was equivalent to a Budget Analyst I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes This position requires a pre-employment background investigation as a condition of employment of the selected applicant. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
