    Vacation & Sick Leave

    At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

    Holidays

    The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

    Retirement
    This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.27%, per fiscal year.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    GENERAL PURPOSE: Under direction of the Training Unit Sergeant, supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of training programs for the Buckeye Police Department. This position assists with instructional duties, manages logistical arrangements for classes, processes training requests, record keeping, and handles related administrative tasks.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

    • Assist in teaching selected training classes and supporting instructors during sessions.
    • Coordinate and schedule training activities, including courses, conferences, and workshops.
    • Process and track training requests and approvals.
    • Prepare travel documentation and assist with booking lodging and registrations for department personnel.
    • Maintain and update the department’s training calendar and related records.
    • Ensure availability and set up of training materials, equipment, and facilities.
    • Assist with onboarding and orientation scheduling for new employees.
    • Maintain accurate employee training records for AZPOST, CALEA, and internal compliance.
    • Prepare reports, correspondence, and bulletins related to training activities.
    • Assist in monitoring the training budget and support the preparation of grant-related documentation.
    • Coordinate with external training providers, agencies, and other law enforcement organizations.
    • Maintain training-related technical equipment under the direction of the Training Unit Sergeant.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or required.


    Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements

    Education and Experience:

    High school diploma or GED and two (2) years’ experience in a police agency environment; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. AZPOST General Instructor Certification highly desirable.

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • City policies and procedures.
    • Basic law enforcement training requirements and procedures.
    • Record keeping standards and privacy regulations.


    Skill in:
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Operating a personal computer with associated software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel) and standard office equipment.


    Ability to:
    • Plan, organize and coordinate training schedules.
    • Follow instructions and work under deadlines.
    • Work independently on multiple projects and exercise discretion and good judgment.
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Work cooperatively with internal staff and outside agencies.
    • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work.


    12-Month Goals:
    • Become proficient in completing and processing all paperwork related to training requests and travel authorization in compliance with organizational policies.
    • Successfully organize and manage logistics for 10 or more training events, ensuring smooth execution and participant satisfaction.
    • Teach or provide instructional support for at least 3 training sessions, contributing to the professional development of staff and promoting knowledge retention.
    • Oversee accurate and up-to-date training records.
    • Conduct periodic audits and generate comprehensive reports to support compliance and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Regularly review and update the Training Section of the Field Reference Guide to reflect current practices, procedures, and organizational needs.


    Additional Information

    Special Requirements: Valid Arizona Driver’s License. Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation process and polygraph examination.
    Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in standard office environment; occasional exposure to outdoor or classroom training settings.
