    Job Location: This position will be located at 930 Wildwood Dr., Jefferson City, MO.

    Why you’ll love this position:

    This regulatory enforcement position will be responsible for conducting inspections of lead abatement projects across the state of Missouri, ensuring individuals conducting the abatement are licensed and in compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations and protecting citizens from lead poisoning. You’ll also be educating the public through outreach opportunities to help them better understand how lead exposure and lead poisoning can be very dangerous, especially to young and developing children, and how to properly address lead hazard found throughout their own homes. This position will also give you an opportunity to grow with the Lead Licensing Program and the Department of Health and Senior Services through a range of collaborative activities and opportunities to work with other parts of the Department on statewide health issues that impact the State of Missouri and surrounding states.

    • Perform onsite inspections of lead abatement projects and records audits of lead abatement professionals and training providers;
    • Issue warnings and violations to lead abatement professionals when appropriate;
    • Answer technical questions from lead abatement professionals and the public regarding lead abatement, lead licensing, lead trainings throughout the State of Missouri;
    • Collect, maintain, and evaluate lead abatement project data;
    • Cooperate and coordinate with EPA Region 7, HUD Lead Grant Progams throughout Missouri, other state lead programs, and industry professionals to help promote lead safe work practices;
    • Review submissions of accredited training provider applications;
    • Review course material as needed for accreditation/reaccreditation in a timely manner;
    • Develop and share educational materials through outreach activities to raise awareness of the dangers associated with lead poisoning and working with lead hazards;
    • Work with the Program to review and update regulations as required;
    • Monitor lead abatement projects throughout the State;
    • Assist as backup to review and process occupational license applications.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ability to obtain a valid Missouri Lead Risk Assessor License and Lead Abatement Supervisor license.
    • Knowledge of basic research methods and analysis, computer information systems, and statistical software.
    • Ability to perform field inspections.
    • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
    • Ability to maintain and operate databases, and an ability to perform basic queries and analysis of data.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Physical Science, Public Health, or a closely related field. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
    • Knowledge of residential construction practices and remodeling techniques preferred.
    • This position requires statewide travel, including some overnight, and work outside of normal hours may be expected. Infrequent weekend or out-of-state travel may be required.
    • Adhere to Department's policies of professionalism.
    • 2-4 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed)
