job descriptionThe Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, ITS is filling two Database Architect positions. he positions will be responsible for the support, installation, configuration, and replication of Oracle databases pertaining to the following Power System operations: Electric Trouble Outage Management System (OMS), Work Management Information System (WMIS), Power Engineering ProjectWise System (Drafting), Critical Infrastructure Protection System (CIP), and other smaller application databases pertaining to Power System. The position will be located at 233 S. Beaudry Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012. Available schedule is 5/40 or 9/80 with a start time between 6:30am to 8:00 am. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Designing, developing, implementing, and managing policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, security and availability of databases and their accompanying software;
- Working with application development staff to develop database architectures, SQL coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures;
- Performing database creation, data loading, data conversion, performance troubleshooting, and SQL Query development;
- Implementation of database backup and recovery job streams, review and evaluate database design, and applying best practices to maximize database performance;
- Supporting Oracle 12c/19c (or newer) and Microsoft SQL Server
- 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022;
- Utilizing the NERC CIP rules and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes for change, release and problem management as they relate to databases management;
- Performs other related duties, as necessary.
Candidates will be evaluated for the following work related skills, knowledge, abilities:
- Experience supporting Oracle 12c and above.
- Experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022.
- Unix/Linux Operating system experience, especially experience with Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Appliance (ODA).
- Knowledge of database system management tools such as SQL Server Management Studio and Oracle Enterprise Manager, as well as working knowledge of Oracle Dataguard replication and Oracle container databases.
- Experience working with SQL Developer and Transact-SQL, database creation, data loading, data conversion, data migration views, triggers, and stored procedures logic, backup and recovery, version migrations, and security patching.
- Understand the importance of change, configuration, problem, release, and incident management procedures.
- Understand disaster recovery and security concepts, create and execute disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve database related problems.
