The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling a Mental Health Counselor 2. This position is at the Caliente Youth Center (CYC). CYC, established in 1962, is a staff-secure facility located in Caliente. The facility includes seven separate housing units for youth committed to the state for correctional care: five units for males and two for females. CYC has the capacity to serve youth ages 12 to 18. The Mental Health Counselors complete risk and/or suicide assessments, completes documents and follow reporting chain for these incidents as needed or requested by youth, family, therapist, or facility. Evaluates for and makes referrals as needed for psychological testing, psychiatric evaluations, substance abuse treatments, and other specialized programming that requires a clinical referral. Provides weekly updates for the committed to changing program on each youth on caseload. Participates in biweekly admissions meeting and provides input on mental health needs of youth pending admission. Sees youth as regularly as indicated on the treatment plan and at the request of the youth, family and/or facility as clinically indicated. Provides contacts that both meet the needs of the families and provide effective interventions resulting in positive outcomes. Collateral activities support treatment needs. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
