The PositionThe City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of
SENIOR WASTEWATER MAINTENANCE MECHANIC to fill one (1) vacancy in theWastewater Division of the Public Works Department
. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.
Under general supervision, a Senior Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic will supervise and participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heavy industrial/plant mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment; and do related work as required.
Work PerformedDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervise, and participate in the maintenance and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Supervise and participate in the operation of a lathe, milling machine and other machine tools in repairing large pumps, variable speed drives, motors, chain drives, sewerage lift stations and related equipment.
- Supervise and participate in the installation of pumps, variable speed drives and motors, controllers and timing devices.
- Supervise and participate in the lubrication and inspection of equipment and in the replacing of packing in pumps and valves and bearings in motors, pumps and other equipment.
- Supervise and participate in general building maintenance and repair, including HVAC and air handler systems troubleshooting and maintenance, including carpentry, pouring and finishing of concrete, and painting work.
- Use a variety of hand and power hand tools and may operate overhead traveling bridge cranes and truck cranes.
- Maintain records of maintenance, repair and lubrication of machinery and equipment within the asset management system.
- When assigned to Facility maintenance, will assist with supervising warehouse staff and participate in maintaining inventory stock, procurement and issuance.
- Will be required to work with, coordinate and schedule plant staff, vendors, and contractors for plant and remote station services and maintenance.
- Lead, direct, train and assign work to subordinates.
QualificationsRecruitment Guidelines: Education : High School diploma or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
Experience : Five years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of heavy industrial plant mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, vari-speed and chain drives, lift stations and related equipment. Lead experience is desirable.
Necessary Special Requirement(s): - Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class "C" motor vehicle operator's license. May require the ability to obtain a valid California Class "B" motor vehicle operator's license.
- Possession of a Grade II Mechanical Technologist Certification issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA).
- Possession of a Grade III Mechanical Technologist Certification issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) within 12 months from the date of hire.
*A Senior Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic hired or promoted prior to January 1, 2024, is "grand-fathered” so the CWEA Mechanical Technologist, Grade III certification is not a requirement. An incumbent hired or promoted to the Senior Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic after December 31, 2023, must possess the CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade II Certification and must obtain the CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade III certification within 12 months of hire or promotion date.Highly Desired Qualifications:- Current possession of a Grade III Maintenance Technologist Certification from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA).
- Possession of a Crane Operators Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).
- Possession of at least one year of facilities mechanical maintenance experience (HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, etc.), at a Wastewater treatment plant or similar processing facility.

- Retirement for Classic Members - For employees hired after 1/1/2013 who are CLASSIC MEMBERS of California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12 and have not been separated from service from such agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2.7 % @ age 55; 3 year final compensation. The required employee contribution is 8%. The City does not participate in Social Security; thus, employees do not bear this additional 6.2% expense.
- Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who ARE NOT a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% at age 62; 3 year final compensation. The required employee contribution is 50% of the normal cost. And is subject to change per CalPERS every fiscal year. - Dental Insurance - The City provides three dental insurance plans and contributes up to $45 per month.

- Life Insurance - The City provides and pays for term life insurance with accidental death and dismemberment equal to two times the annual salary rounded to the next highest $1,000 plus AD&D. Additional Life Insurance is available and voluntary for employee and eligible dependents (up to $300k).
