    The Job

    San Bernardino County is hiring Supervising Legal Support Assistants to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate the operations of a busy and complex law office. This role may include oversight of fiscal, clerical, human resources, and recordkeeping functions within a law office.

    Key Responsibilities Include:
    • Interview and recommend candidates for hire; train and supervise legal clerical staff.
    • Assign and prioritize tasks, review work, and conduct performance evaluations.
    • Administer discipline and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
    • Oversee the preparation and processing of a wide range of legal documents, including affidavits, agreements, briefs, court calendars, misdemeanor and felony complaints, civil filings, contracts, declarations, and depositions.
    • Perform related duties as required.

    The resulting eligible list may be used to fill vacancies throughout San Bernardino County. Candidates should indicate the specific offices they are willing to accept an assignment. Please do not select any offices with which you are not willing to work. This list will be exclusively used for the offices of County Counsel, the District Attorney's Office, and the Public Defender's Office.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: A background investigation will be conducted, including a DOJ/FBI fingerprint check and drug screening. Some departments may require a credit check depending on the assigned unit.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

    Minimum Requirements

    CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    Three (3) years of full-time office clerical work experience in direct clerical support in a legal environment or in direct support of a licensed attorney.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have experience performing advanced legal clerical duties in a fast-paced legal environment. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Proficiency in preparing and processing a variety of legal documents with a high degree of accuracy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting strict deadlines is highly desirable. Experience supporting attorneys in a public sector or governmental legal office is highly desired.
