Senior Engineering Technician

Full-time position available with the Water Deparment, Pipeline Division, located at 2409 E 18th St.
Salary Range: $27.25-$40.88/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00a.m.-3:30p.m.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily scheduling, coordinating activities with the water supplemental repair contractors, other city departments, divisions, and direct reports.
• Signs off on contract repairs completed inside of E-Builder.
• Upholds and enforces HR rules and policies, investigating employee grievances and complaints, and submitting employees time, vacation, and sick leave requests.
• Completes and submits annual ratings of each direct report which must be written and submitted within the allotted time frame.
• Reviews drive cams daily in the Lytx System, coaching events as necessary.
• Utilizes GIS Maps for identifying and locating assets needed for repairs/replacement, valves, fire hydrants, services needed for water main shuts. Knowledge of how to access detailed information in GIS maps through the Layers List. Updating GIS Maps when required.
• Uses Hansen to access work order information, creating, assigning work orders to contractors, updating information and closing/creating work orders.
• This position will involve the use of metal detectors to locate Water assets, operating valves and fire hydrants, etc. Knowledge of WSD acceptable materials and types of restraint used for repairs and maintenance of the water distribution system, water main test/shuts, for distribution and transmission mains, assisting contractors with water main shuts when required. Strong communication skills, Coordinating shut times with our consumers, giving notifications to both residential and businesses for water outages. Also, coordinating with Water Supply - SCADA for any transmission main repairs.

Qualifications

REQUIRES high school graduation and 7 years of experience in engineering drawing, mapping, automated mapping, geographical information systems (GIS) and equipment or computer aided drafting and design (CADD), engineering, land survey, or construction inspection or an acceptable combination of education and experience; OR high school graduation and 5 years of experience in engineering drawing, mapping, automated mapping, geographical information systems (GIS) and equipment or computer aided drafting and design (CADD), engineering, land survey, construction inspection and possession of a Level II Engineering Technology Certification in any Civil, Electrical or Mechanical discipline as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) or "Land Surveyor in Training" as issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architect; OR high school graduation and possession of the Level III Certification as "Engineering Technician (ET)" as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) or a Registered Land Surveyor's License as issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
