    BIOL 354: Principles of Ecology

    The Department of Biological Sciences at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2025 to teach the discussion and lab sections of BIOL 354: Principles of Ecology. This course is part of the upper-division core for the Biology major at CSUSM and will be taught in-person with an enrollment cap of 24.

    Course Description

    Discussion of major concepts in population, community, and evolutionary ecology including population growth and regulation, competition, predation, energetics, adaptations, and diversity. Three hours of lecture. Three hours of laboratory. Field trip(s) during or outside of class (including weekends) may be required.

    Minimum qualifications:
    • A master's degree in biology or relevant field
    • Experience teaching at the college level for at least one semester
    • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

    Preferred qualifications:
    • A doctoral degree or equivalent
    • Demonstrated research expertise in ecology
    • Experience teaching upper-division biology classes
    • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.


    Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

    • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,008 per full-time month


    The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

    • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month


    The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
