In this role, you'll play a vital role in keeping our site safe, clean, and efficient. You'll direct on-site traffic, help protect the environment by screening waste for hazardous materials, and operate a variety of equipment including pickups, tractors, mowers, and vacuum trailers. From hand-picking litter to maintaining the shop, fences, and buildings, every day brings new challenges and opportunities. This position is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and includes a rotating Saturday shift. Saturday coverage operates on a four-week rotation among four landfill laborers, so each employee is assigned to work one Saturday every four weeks.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Guiding commercial and public vehicles safely through the landfill site, ensuring proper dumping locations are followed and minimizing traffic congestion.
- Visually inspecting loads to identify and remove hazardous, restricted, or prohibited materials before they reach the active face.
- Using equipment such as pickup trucks, tractors, mowers, vacuum trailers, and litter vacuums to support daily operations and site maintenance.
- Picking up scattered litter by hand or with tools to keep the landfill grounds, fencing, and surrounding areas clean and compliant with regulations.
- Assisting with general upkeep, including minor repairs, cleaning, and organizing tools and materials around the landfill facilities.
- Working in the diversion area to safely separate tires from rims using a tire machine for proper recycling and material recovery.
- Collecting and organizing scrap metal for transport to recycling facilities, ensuring proper separation and load safety.
- Inspecting the green waste drop-off zone to remove unacceptable materials (such as plastics or treated wood), keeping the area clean and contamination-free.
- Assisting with lifting and loading mattresses into trailers for off-site recycling, helping divert materials from the landfill and supporting sustainability goals.

What we're looking for:
- Stays alert and aware of surroundings in a high-traffic, heavy equipment environment to prevent accidents and ensure personal and public safety.
- Performs physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions, including walking, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Collaborates effectively with others, follows instructions, and communicates clearly with coworkers, equipment operators, and the public.
- Identifies prohibited or hazardous materials in waste loads and monitors for contamination in diversion areas.
- Operates light-duty vehicles and tools (e.g., tractors, mowers, vacuums) and demonstrates willingness to learn basic machinery such as tire removal equipment.
- Shows dependability, punctuality, and motivation to complete tasks consistently with quality and care.
- Accepts training, learns new skills, and handles a wide variety of tasks across landfill and diversion operations.

- One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.

Supplemental InformationWe’re excited to share that big changes are underway! We’re currently building a brand-new waste diversion facility at our existing landfill, scheduled for completion in April 2026. In addition, a modern, state-of-the-art landfill is under construction north of Fort Collins and is expected to begin accepting waste in July 2026, when the current Taft Hill Road landfill reaches capacity. It’s a great time to join our team and be part of these major improvements to our solid waste system!
