POSITION SUMMARYThe Development Services Department seeks a Senior Business Tax Specialist!
The Senior Business Tax Specialist performs advanced business tax duties and functions including management and maintenance of specialized accounts.
In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Maintains various business tax records including but not limited to League of Cities payments, sidewalk cafés, insurances, special events, fertilizer affidavits, refunds of credits and lien searches
- May train, plan, assign and lead the work of business tax specialists
- Updates the Business Tax website as needed
- Receive and process local business tax applications for compliance with state and local codes; collects payments assist customers with inquires and issues
- Provides customer service by answering telephones and responding to inquiries.
- Identify, research and resolve more complex problems via phone, email, and personal contact
- Provides billing information in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
- Verifies accuracy and completeness of all data/information received
- Researches and provides verification on information requests
- Performs daily accounting tasks related to work performed, which may include calculating, billing, receiving various fees and payments and balancing daily revenues
- Receives, processes and distributes division mail, and prepares forms, letters, and parcels for mailing
- Performs a variety of clerical duties by filing, entering information into databases, generating and submitting reports
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalencyThree (3) years performing clerical work. Additional completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to two (2) years of the required experience. Notary Public is required within six (6) months of employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong proficiency in accounting, bookkeeping, and mathematical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality customer service both in person and over the phone. Exceptional organizational and time management abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Demonstrated ability to conduct effective online research.
Accurate typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time, but may walk or stand for brief periods of time.
