    The Position

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

    The Division Of Child And Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for an Assistant Superintendent located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) a 64-bed staff secure facility for youth age 14 to 18 located in Elko. The NYTC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking through education, therapeutic treatment and appropriate medical and mental health services. The Assistant Superintendent at a State Youth Correctional Center is responsible for overseeing the care and custody of youth residents by managing home life staff, maintaining safety and security, providing training, coordinating emergency responses, and monitoring treatment plans. This managerial role includes supervising subordinate supervisors, developing policies and procedures, and allocating resources to meet institutional goals. As part of the NYTC leadership team, the Assistant Superintendent ensures that all departments operate in accordance with established policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include ensuring the delivery of constructive programs for youth development, assigning staff schedules, conducting facility inspections, implementing policies, evaluating youth for appropriate placement, addressing health and security risks, preparing operational and parole reports, managing emergency responses, and being available for after-hours incidents. The position plays a critical role in achieving the overall objectives of the facility and its division.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice, business management or closely related field and two years of supervisory experience in directing and supervising staff involved in the custody, treatment, counseling, education and rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals in a correctional facility; OR graduation from high-school or equivalent education and four years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 62B.270 and the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, applicants must submit to a criminal and child abuse background check and said background must be clear of any disqualifying offenses. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
