    DEFINITION : Under general supervision (Information Systems Analyst I) to direction (Information Systems Analyst II), provides professional support to the District’s technology systems; areas of assignment include, but are not limited to, operating systems, cybersecurity, network infrastructure, unified communications, security and business applications/software; troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves technology issues; administers and maintains assigned systems; prepares system/applications technical documentation and training materials; and performs related duties as assigned.

    Information Systems Analyst I: This is the entry-level classification in the Information Systems Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine analysis, troubleshooting and problem resolution for assigned technology program area(s). As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently.

    Information Systems Analyst II: This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Information Systems Analyst series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Information Systems Analyst I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

    Essential Functions

    EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
    Performs professional tasks in support oft he District’s technology systems and applications; serves as a second and third level responder to user issues; reviews the Service Desk Queue to identify priorities; troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves user issues, or elevates to higher level staff or vendors.Conducts detailed analyses in response to requests for modifications to systems or applications; recommends, tests, and implements solutions approved by management.Participates in the analysis and selection of new technology required for expanding computing needs throughout the District; researches and specifies desktop computer hardware and software for new purchases.Provides end-user support and training including guidance on policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.Performstechnicalwritingtasks;documentstechnicalprocesses,troubleshootingguidelines,andend- user frequently asked questions about computer systems or programs; publishes user documents and guidelines for District staff.Procures, installs, configures, tests, and deploys new and upgraded technology, devices and applications to solve specific business problems based on the assigned area.Researches and understands current industry trends and recommends their use or adoption within the District.Coordinates,develops,administers,provisions,anddeployscomputersystems;developsandmaintains network and systems applications, security systems and procedures.Performs diagnostic tests and performance analysis procedures to optimize computer systems, data retrieval and recovery; ensures security and privacy of networks and computer systems.Configures and monitors server and application performance; coordinates activities with other departments; assists in the development and implementation of technical work plans for server management, deployment and ongoing administration/maintenance.Performs network administration tasks; installs and maintains network software; installs file servers and processors; adds, modifies, and deletes system users; establishes and maintains back up and recovery systems; provides support in the establishment and implementation of security control standards.Conducts daily assessments on the status of systems for performance and reliability; ensures nightly backup procedures have been successful and responds to system messages or errors; identifies and resolves hardware or software issues; monitors system for proper operational performance.Manages backups and restores the District’s technology infrastructure; monitors software for successful backups and ensures the organization of backup archive tapes.Installs and maintains the virtual server infrastructure; upgrades, maintains, and decommissions host physical servers with the latest hardware and software; updates servers with the latest service packs and security updates to mitigate security vulnerability.Develops and administers the District’s network topology; installs and configures switches and routers; installs network cabling and fiber optics; adds and removes workstations from network security lists.Oversees and administers the District’s email infrastructure including the creation of the servers, installation of the mail exchanger software, and configuration of the application, user maintenance and software updates; creates and manages the email archiving solution.Maintains the Microsoft Active Directory servers including user account management, security group management, and group policy management.Maintains and manages datacenters and the District’s file servers; monitors the server environment, power loads and disk space usage; performs updates; sets security permissions on folders and backs up and restores data.

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

    Experience:

    Analyst I: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience providing professional support in the assigned technology area.

    Analyst II: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience providing professional support in the assigned technology area.

    Licenses and Certifications : Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
