San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is recruiting for
Dental Assistants who provide technical assistance to dental professionals in the treatment of patients; maintain records, supplies, and equipment; and perform other dental clinic clerical duties in a correctional facility setting. Dental Assistants perform the following duties: Assist the dentist at chair side; take and develop dental x-rays for diagnostic purposes; instruct patients in proper practices of dental hygiene and prophylaxis; sterilize, care for and arrange dental instruments, equipment, and accessories; make appointments for patients; update and maintain dental records.
Incumbents will be required to travel and work in all four jail facilities which are located in Adelanto, Devore, Rancho Cucamonga, and San Bernardino.For more detailed information, refer to the Dental Assistant II job description.

General Unit - Benefits Summary Guide . CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Certification/License: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Dental Assistant by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners, a Coronal Polish certification, and a current Basic Life Support certification.
Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.

Physical demands: Balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, standing, stooping, turning, twisting and walking long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds.
Working conditions: May involve exposure to hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Minimum RequirementsLicense*: Possession of a current license as a Registered Dental Assistant issued by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.
-AND-Certifications*: Possession of a Coronal Polishing certification AND current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
-AND-Experience: One (1) year of experience (full-time equivalent) performing clinical dental assistant duties which include oral health education, charting of decayed, missing and/or filled teeth, and instructing patients on proper oral hygiene and proper nutritional habits.
