Travel: Travel throughout the County is required to perform duties in the community. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation and may be required to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Shifts: Require some evenings, weekends, and on-call to cover Fire District activities and on-scene active incidents which occur in extreme conditions (high heat, extreme wind, sun, rain, snow, etc.).
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements Education: Sixty (60) semester (90 quarter) units of completed college coursework, half of which must be upper division, in English, Journalism, Business/Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing or Mass Communications. A list of completed college coursework or legible transcripts must be submitted with the application if the candidate does not possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields listed above from an accredited program of study.
--AND-- Experience: Two (2) years of related experience with primary responsibility for organizing, coordinating, and overseeing outreach projects and programs to promote organization events and activities; experience must include writing and editing brochures, newsletters, news releases, and/or promotional materials for internal and external publications.
NOTE: Ensure your work history clearly details your qualifying experience and responsibilities, including social media (post, monitor), electronic media (design, maintenance), print media (brochures, news releases, etc.), multimedia (video editing, scripts, filming), and handling public inquiries (responses, etc.).
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess and demonstrate the following:
- Experience in multimedia production, including graphic design, video editing, photography, and content creation for public information, outreach, or marketing campaigns
- Strong web content management skills, including experience using WordPress, basic HTML/CSS, or other platforms to update and maintain websites
- Experience creating and distributing content across social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube) with a focus on brand consistency, reach and engagement
- Hands-on technical troubleshooting skills, particularly related to video production, livestreaming, field editing, and use of cameras, mics, lighting and encoding software/hardware
- Experience working in a government/public sector setting responding to major incidents
- Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to quickly turn incident updates, program messaging, or visual content into clear, concise, and engaging deliverables.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with limited supervision.
