DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Manages and directs the electrical maintenance operations for various facilities city-wide. Plans and supervises the repair and preventive maintenance of the city's wastewater facilities. Enacts policy from the mayor. Plans, organizes, directs, and reviews various operations, facilities and personnel. Works cooperatively and coordinates activities with other divisions and departments. Cooperates with related outside agencies, committees, and civic associations. Implements and participates in modifying emergency preparedness plan. Gives personal attention to emergency or special problems; responds to complaints or inquiries from the public, city officials or outside agencies. Prepare and implement plans for meeting federal, state and city legislative requirements. Presents information concerning Houston Public Works to interested citizens groups on an as requested basis. Reviews hiring recommendations and job performance evaluations for consistency and compliance with city policy and procedures, AA/EEO goal implementation, and effective counseling and career development training for personnel. Research technical product specifications and must have a current State of Texas or City of Houston Journeyman Electrician License. Assist annually in fiscal year budget preparation.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline would normally be obtained through a formal 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Seven years of experience closely related to the activities of the area or division to be supervised are required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Requires a valid Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** At least four (4) years of experience in the supervisory/management level.
